VNGGames at SEA Games 2023: Shared strength leads to success

06:53 AM | 16/06/2023

The Southeast Asian Games have come to an end, and sports fans in the region are more excited than ever after seeing many amazing performances from the participating countries. Nguyen Nhu Binh, Senior Product Coordinator of Game Studio 3, was part of the team of high-quality professionals from VNGGames that helped the host country with the event. She shared some of the inspiring stories and highlights from the project, as well as the lessons and memories they gained.

Dream big, think bigger, go further

Being an organizer for eSports tournaments at the Games gave VNGGames a chance to show its abilities to current and potential partners, especially game publishers and developers in the region. The team members understood the importance of this opportunity and did their best to achieve the best results, as this was one of VNGGames’ main projects in the second quarter of 2023. The event was also meaningful for the host country, the organizing committee, the athletes and their home countries, and all the sports enthusiasts and viewers in the region.

For this SEA Games 2023, the core team had to deal with a huge amount of work, not only requiring full attention from all members, but also coordinating with various stakeholders, such as eSports, Media, and other centralized teams of Game Studio 3, as well as collaborators, coordinators, agencies, and other relevant human resources. The project team worked together as a strong unit and overcame all challenges. As Binh said: By the end of the Games, they all had something to take away: good memories, new friends in the region, experiences and lessons learned, and most importantly a stepping stone to bigger opportunities in the future.

“Turning point of a lifetime”

To ensure quality, the project team started preparation ahead of time and operated continuously both when in Vietnam and moving to Cambodia. Speaking of memorable moments at this time, Binh shared that she was most impressed when player Tra “SkyNin” Chhany of Cambodia was competing on PUBG Mobile individual, which was also the last day of the whole eSports tournament. A large number of Cambodian spectators came to the venue at Olympia Mall to cheer for the player, and, without surprise, SkyNin made a spectacular breakthrough, winning the Gold medal in the cheers of joy and bursting tears of the audience watching.

This is a significant moment as it shows the team’s ability to deliver such memorable experiences for many people, including SkyNin who had a life-changing achievement when they won the Gold medal at the 2023 SEA Games. Moreover, this is also a remarkable milestone in the eSports industry, aiming to gain more positive and humane recognition from the community.

From embracing challenges to achieving success

The project team accompanying the 2023 SEA Games always followed the spirit of “Embracing Challenges” throughout the execution process. Binh said: “We could easily stay in our comfort zone. It would be easier to work with familiar people, more convenient to work with fewer partners, and less troublesome to follow the old method. But with a regional event like the 2023 SEA Games, which takes place outside of Vietnam and has higher quality standards, we did not let ourselves go down that safe path.” The project team opted to work with new partners, adopt new methods, proactively overcome hardships and take on more challenges. These are the clear manifestations of the “Embracing Challenges” spirit, which is one of the core values of every Starter and needs to be further disseminated and enhanced.

When the project for the 2023 SEA Games ends, many new opportunities will arise with bigger goals, higher expectations and more deserving outcomes. The Starter’s strength will continue to be a vital factor for the success of VNGGames in the future.
