Agile Manifesto and the opinion from VNG’s expert

04:46 AM | 17/05/2023

First of all, Agile is not a specific process or template. It is an adjective meaning nimble, lean, and smart. Organizations or individuals go through Agile Transformation to achieve specific goals such as: creating better values for their customers.

In sports, agility is one of the characteristics of any athlete (speed, strength, focus, and agile). There is no simple method that fits all challenges. Athletes need to be agile to apply what they’ve learned to specific cases.

The beginning of Agile

Agile was defined in 2001 on 4 core values and 12 operating principles.

  • People (over processes and tools): The project team focuses on team members rather than just trying to manage operations and implementation tools. Building interaction is a way to help them collaborate and solve any problems that arise.
  • Working product (over comprehensive documentation): Agile project prioritizes product development for customers over focusing on lengthy and quickly outdated documents. It can be said that the quality and value of the new product are the core of Agile product development.
  • Responding to change (over following a plan): The project team should have the agility to keep up with changes as the project progresses. A flexible roadmap can change from quarter to quarter, sometimes even month to month, and teams can still be agile to keep up with those changes.
  • Customer collaboration (over contract negotiation): During use, the product may appear different from what the contract has written, so it is necessary to establish a continuous feedback cycle with customers to ensure that the product quality matches their requirements.

Initially, Agile was applied to the software industry, but later many organizations of diverse fields adopted and recognized them to benefit from Agile, including in areas such as defense and medical research. science, space research, geological exploration, oil, and gas, …

Agile from different perspectives

Agile for organization

The ability to quickly adapt and overcome market crises and internal issues to catch up with the best strategy.

Agile for project management

The ability to change the processes, and plans; detect risk early; lean and continuous delivery to maximize market alignment.

Agile for individual

The ability to self-negate outdated experiences, and skills and be ready to improve and achieve.

Organizations or individuals need to practice a lot to get the best from Agile. Therefore, Agile Transformation is an exciting topic with many interesting myths. Stay tuned and wait for our next articles on these topics.
