Associate System Engineer, GreenNode

Role Overview:

We are looking for an Associate Systems Engineer to join our Core Infrastructure team. We run high-scale physical and virtual cloud platforms; our focus is the health, efficiency, and resilience of physical and virtualized computing platforms.
We value hands-on system curiosity, diagnostic intuition, and clear analytical thinking. You will work alongside senior and principal engineers to monitor fleet health, optimize compute and storage allocation, triage complex system behaviors, and build engineering-grade technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities:
Systems Diagnostics & Incident Triage:

• Investigate OS and kernel issues, analyze telemetry, system logs, and system calls across our Linux fleet.
• Inspect degraded hardware before complete failure occurs.

Resource Management & Capacity Tracking:

• Monitor fleet utilization, workload density, and resource quotas.
• Help manage the operational lifecycle of compute and storage hosts.

Research, Benchmarking & Documentation:

• Run performance benchmarks on hardware components and kernel settings.
• Synthesize benchmark data into clear technical evaluation reports.
• Write precise internal runbooks and operational playbooks.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).

Mindset: A strong passion for system design and architecture, combined with a proactive attitude and a high eagerness to learn and research independently.

Foundational Tech Skills:
Linux Systems Fundamentals:

• Understanding Linux operating system mechanics (process states, virtual memory, and system calls.
• Comfortable with systemd, file descriptors, and filesystem basics.

Diagnostic & Telemetry Tools:

• Hands-on skill with CLI tools (top, vmstat, iostat, strace, lsof).
• Basic network troubleshooting using ss, tcpdump.
• Ability to read time-series metrics and identify anomalies.

Infrastructure Primitives:

• Familiarity with container and virtualization basics (Docker, KVM).
• Understanding of hardware concepts: CPU cores, NUMA nodes, RAM, and NVMe drives.

Technical Writing & Rigor:

• Ability to read RFCs, hardware specs, and Linux man pages.
• Skill in writing structured Markdown notes, post-mortems, and tables

Scripting Hygiene:

• Basic scripting skills in Bash or Python.
• Ability to parse logs, extract metrics, and automate diagnostic checks.
